I am pleased to address you as the new President of SENA Local 9158.
As you may have heard John Zuccaro retired on January 29,2016 after forty years of service with the city and Subsequentiy resigned as President. He announced these intentions at the Officers and Stewards meeting in October , and pursuant to the procedures of the USW Constitution I was unanimously elected President. On a personal note I would like to thank John for his service and his friendship. As President, I can only hope that I can build the same trust as he had with all of our members.
Final Presidential News Notes
Prior to closing out my final meeting as President of SENA - I wish to leave a few parting words.
Over a decade ago in speaking with Tommy Hutch I truly believed I could make a difference in this union. Looking back I can honestly state that with the support and loyalty of the Officers and Stewards and the membership, both past and present we have made SENA the envy of all civilian unions throughout the City.
I wish to extend my thanks to each of you for what you have done, for what you do, and for what you will continue to do for the membership in the future,
With several departments notifying their employees of the ability of a four day workweek, we wish to highlight that pursuant to the collective bargaining agreement between SENA 9158 and the City of Boston all 4 day work week requests can be rescinded either by the City of Boston and/or the individual SENA member with a fourteen day advance notification. This proviso is stated on the submission sheet and no reason has to be provided for rescission by either party.
On March 1,2015 longtime Staff Representative and current Assistant District Director Al Polk announced his retirement from the USW. While Al served the USW since the days it was referred to as the USWA and since our inception, he was more of a "friend" to our local. So it was with mixed emotions that we greeted this announcement. But on behalf of the entire membership, we wish Al a long, happy and healthy retirement.
